Creating Smiles and Making Memories

Chairman’s Monthly Blog

Welcome everyone to the new website and thanks to all the people that have made it happen for us and who continue to support us with keeping it up to date. In future, I will be writing a monthly blog to keep you up to speed with all the Trusts activities and let you know about upcoming events.

At the Ball last October, I explained that during and since COVID the Trust has been struggling with unprecedented demand from the families we support as well as reduced funds both from the impact of Lockdown on our normal fundraising events. We have also seen an unexpected change in life around us that has made raising funds more difficult than previously. I set a challenge to each of you – if everyone in the room could raise £250 we would put the Trust back on track. Well, we’re not there yet but the response has been somewhere between ‘very encouraging ‘ and ‘fantastic’!

We have had massive support from Esher Scaffolding whose management and teams have bust a gut to collectively fund a whole host of things that we might have had to decline otherwise. But, and I’m sure the Esher team would agree, an 8 year old girl, Elsie from Warlingham, who has raised more than this target by selling cakes to her teammates and parents at her Saturday morning football matches deserves just as much credit! Thank you so much to all of you who have picked up the baton for us and taken on the challenge.

We were delighted to be able to put on a new event called the Colour Run last weekend - it’s a mud run but with paint! Check out the video. This is an event we will be looking to run again so don’t be shy, gather some friends together and join the fun.

We also have a fantastic endurance go-karting race at the Surbiton Raceway on Saturday 7th September. Again, it’s all about teams, so speak to your petrol headed friends and join us for a great day out, having fun and supporting suffering families. The last time we were able to run such an event it was very well supported and everyone agreed it was one of our best.

If that all sounds a bit physical, don’t worry we have the highly anticipated Ladies Lunch on the 2nd June at the Corza restaurant in West Wickham. So, it’s even possible to raise money and help people by eating, drinking and laughing with your friends. There are still some spaces left if you fancy that!

That’s all for this month, I wish I could thank everyone personally but that would take an age, so please accept a huge group ‘Thank You’ to everyone who has joined the challenge - and to those that are still pondering – what will you do today to make you feel proud?

Tim
